New York Fashion Week: A Market Trip to Remember

I go to New York every season to buy for GAL Fashion, but this September’s trip felt different. It was my mom’s birthday, so she joined me and my assistant Marilyn for five days of fashion, celebration, and time together. We worked hard, had so much fun, and came home with memories I’ll treasure just as much as the pieces I found for the store.

At market, I saw a clear shift toward casual clothes that still feel luxurious. Looking ahead to spring 2027, there were windbreakers, shorts, and matching sets everywhere. That direction makes sense to me because I’m seeing it with my clients, too. Women still want to feel polished and special, but many are reaching for pieces they can wear more often and more comfortably.

There was plenty of beauty in the details. Lace continues to have a strong presence, and I loved the softer palette of butter yellow and lavender. I also kept noticing a matcha green: a little deeper than mint and so fresh for spring. Camel remains a favorite, too.

Those discoveries shaped my buying. I’m drawn more and more to distinctive pieces that feel exciting to find at GAL Fashion. I picked up several new brands, with a focus on styles you’re less likely to see everywhere else. I also looked for beautiful pieces at more approachable prices, so building a wardrobe you love can feel easier.

Outside the showrooms, the trip was just as inspiring. At the Met, I visited the fashion exhibition and saw a red Jacquemus gown I haven’t stopped thinking about. It had the presence of a work of art, yet I could still imagine someone wearing it. If you’re in New York while the exhibition is on, I highly recommend seeing it.

I also got to watch Ben Shelton play in the U.S. Open final. He didn’t win, but being there to experience the energy of that match was unforgettable.

One of the happiest surprises happened at the L’AGENCE showroom. Tara Rudes Dann was there, and I was happy to run into her. She helped me with my buy and was incredibly attentive throughout. I also met Malka Katzav of Big Drop NYC, a boutique owner I’ve followed and admired for years. Meeting women whose work has inspired me made an already wonderful trip feel even more personal.

This market trip reminded me why I love what I do: discovering what’s next, meeting the people behind the fashion, and bringing pieces home that I can’t wait to share with you. Spring 2027 is going to be so good. I can’t wait for you to see what we found.
