A Love Affair With Vintage Designer Handbags

For many years, I’ve had a wonderful relationship with my friend Mario, a Los Angeles-based designer handbag expert and consignment business owner. Over the years, we’ve collaborated on several events, but this year, Mario called me and said, “I really want to come to El Paso.”

And honestly, I couldn’t have been more excited.

Mario is a breath of fresh air. He’s fun, energetic, incredibly knowledgeable, and truly passionate about what he does. So, naturally, we decided to put together a designer handbag trunk show—and what happened next was even better than I imagined.

The Birkin That Stole the Show

To my surprise and delight, Mario arrived with a Birkin!

It was absolutely gorgeous, and the entire collection he brought was incredible. But this wasn’t just a shopping event. Mario gave our guests a true master class in designer handbags, sharing his expertise on everything from craftsmanship and history to authenticity and value.

We had an amazing selection of designers, including Chanel, Dior, Loewe, and many more, along with unique, one-of-a-kind pieces that you simply don’t see every day.

And yes—we sold the Birkin!

Chanel was also our best-selling designer of the day, which was such a fun surprise. The entire event became this wonderful combination of fashion, education, and the excitement of discovering that perfect piece.

We ended up selling so many designer handbags in a single day that I begged Mario to stay for another day and do Part Two!

And this is just the beginning. We’ll continue bringing more designer handbag pop-ups and trunk shows to El Paso, so stay tuned.

What I Learned About Buying Designer Handbags

One of the biggest takeaways I want to share with my readers is this: when you’re spending serious money on a designer handbag, authentication matters.

Whether a bag is brand new or pre-owned, always make sure you’re purchasing from a reputable source and, when appropriate, that you receive proper authentication documentation. When you’re investing in a luxury piece, you want to know exactly what you’re buying.

I also learned something fascinating about vintage handbags: in many cases, the craftsmanship can be exceptional. Older pieces were often made with incredible attention to detail, and some were produced using techniques and construction methods that are much harder to find today.

And then there’s the investment factor.

Depending on the designer, style, condition, rarity, and model, certain handbags can hold their value remarkably well—and some can even become collectible pieces that are passed down as family heirlooms. Of course, not every designer bag is an investment, so it’s important to do your research and understand what you’re purchasing.

For me, that’s what made this event so special. It wasn’t just about beautiful handbags. It was about learning the stories behind these pieces, understanding craftsmanship, discovering the value of vintage, and appreciating fashion as something that can be enjoyed for years—and sometimes even passed down to the next generation.

What’s Next?

If you missed our first vintage handbag event, don’t worry. There will be more!

We’ll be continuing our designer handbag pop-ups and bringing even more incredible vintage and pre-owned pieces to El Paso.

Who knows? You might just find your next heirloom.
